Designing Your Social Business Model

Learn how to identify and understand your target groups, design a balanced social business model, and bring ideas to life with quick prototypes. Master the Target Group Canvas and Social Business Model Canvas to focus on what matters most and kickstart validation with confidence.

What you will learn

  • How to detail your target groups. Naming them is a great start; in this module, you'll also learn how to understand them in more detail, and on whom within your target group you should concentrate first.
  • How to structure your social business model. What are the most critical elements? How to balance purpose with profit? How to minimize risk?
  • How to visualize your social business model. After this module, you should go out and test, test, test. For this, you need easy prototypes and tools that represent the parts of your business model that you need to validate.

Competences which you will gain

  • Understanding and applying The Target Group Canvas and The Social Business Model Canvas
  • Detailing your target groups to understand them based on behavioral aspects instead of general characteristics and demographics
  • Ability to name and specify the most critical parts of your social business model. Distinguish them from points and tasks that will be addressed later in the process

Felix Toepler

Hi :)

I’m Felix. For over 15 years, I’ve been involved in projects and ventures that aim to make society more just and sustainable. Starting with a youth association in rural Swabia, I went on to study social work, co-found social startups, and now focus my PhD research on sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystems.

My belief is simple: economy is society - and entrepreneurship has the potential to shape a more sustainable future. Through my work with initiatives like the Public Value Academy and teaching in university contexts, I explore how theory and practice can come together to create real impact.

Beyond academia and entrepreneurship, I’m all about new ideas in everyday life too (which is why I probably change my hobbies so often…). Right now, this means restoring old furniture - a hands-on approach to rethinking waste and value.

I’m looking forward to supporting you in developing your own ideas for change. See you soon:)
